Excerpt:

"Another vendor, inCampus Inc., is attempting to provide a service the founder and CEO Saqib Rasool calls "social commerce." inCampus is attempting to establish connections among college students and between those students and businesses so that commerce of different types may develop. Applications like inCampus may make it possible for an IT organization to do business at this level without sacrificing the direction of their infrastructure."

Washington Technology Industry Association Names inCampus "Best Consumer Product"

June 2, 2008 12:12 by Omar Nasserziayee

Last week at the WSTIA's "Web 2.0 & Beyond!: Unmasking the Future" event, inCampus took home honors in the category "best consumer product." Hundreds of software and internet professionals --along with WSTIA global partners Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Microsoft, Regence, The Hartford, and Wells Fargo-- joined in casting their ballots for innovative and game-changing start-ups from Washington State. For inCampus, the "best consumer product" award represents a culmination of a year of hard work, long hours, and strained pocketbooks for the founding partners, their friends, consultants, and families.

inCampus now sits ready to take the internet by storm as it prepares for its nationwide roll out later this Summer in conjunction with the beginning of the academic school year. Through two seperate campaigns at University of Washington, inCampus has increased exposure, learned valuable lessons, and received feed back on the UI, design, and features of the site, all of which helped us in devloping the site that won this award. The win further represents a major victory for inCampus because it is a self-funded start up that has managed to beat out 14 other companies who have had the benefit of large VC and angel investments.

As the company moves forward from this, we wish to thank all of our families, friends, advisors, student executives, and anyone else that has contibuted to inCampus over the last year. We look forward to living up to the billing that this award brings to the site and continuing to revolutionize the way college students buy, sell, find employment, and interact on the web.

inCampus covered by John Cook from Seattle PI

May 21, 2008 08:26 by Saqib Rasool

Today is truly a happy day for my team and I. Many thanks to John Cook of the Seattle PI for his coverage:

“Seattle's inCampus has unveiled the latest version of its Web site for college students, with features that allow students to find jobs, roommates and coupons. Students also can post news or essays in a section called "Buzz," where users can vote on the news a la Digg.  The company is calling the site the first "social commerce network" for college students. Just like how Facebook started, inCampus limits participation to college students. It is currently available at the University of Washington with plans to expand to other campuses later this year.”

inCampus launches next generation website for college students and alumni

May 4, 2008 21:31 by Saqib Rasool

Version 2.0 aims to intersects social and commerce features:

www.incampus.com has launched its next generation, revolutionary website that combines social networking with P2P commerce. Said to be the first social commerce network for college students, inCampus.com v2.0 is loaded with cool features and all the essential services students need.  Development of inCampus 2.0 was no easy task. The planning phase started as soon as we shipped our version 1.0 in July 2007. We learned quickly that social sites such as Facebook and MySpace were very popular but not quite suited for serving the day to day needs of campus life.

After nearly a year in development, the inCampus team now unveils its version 2.0 that has all the wow factor, latest technology, appealing visual design, and backend intelligence to connect students with the resources they need the most.

Our startup has been self-funded to date, and the founding team is very proud of that fact. “We have may gotten a little behind on rent a couple of time, but we made sure that all the needed energy and focus went into product development. We are really very proud of what we have accomplished with resources at hand,” said Yilei Wang, our VP of Product Development.

inCampus unveiled the platform to their Student Executives and Advisors in late April 08, to get initial feedback. The students loved it at first site, which gave us encouragement to continue with the launch.

A word on features: Focused on college students, inCampus helps them to find the right job, an ideal roommate, a good shopping deal, or a local event ticket among other things. The Buzz is a user generated news service where students can report informally what's happening in their community. All postings on the site have the ability to attach pictures and YouTube videos.

Students can enjoy the social features that social networking websites have made famous; while combining them with commerce and a sense of community. One particular feature that sets inCampus apart from the crowd is a "Connection Map" that allows students to find out how they are connected to others. This, and other features have been carefully designed and added to bring students and alumni the most powerful tool on the web to help them during their college careers.

inCampus is launching full speed at University of Washington with the assistance of our Student Executives and will go nationwide in the coming months.
